DIM’s Top 100 Tracks of 2011 ^{1}

What I really love about music is how it has the rare ability to transport you back to the exact time, place, and feeling you had when you first heard it. Just think about that for a second. Isn’t it funny how a mere snippet of a song from the past can trigger memories as vivid as the day they were captured? Researchers refer to this moment as a “music-evoked autobiographical memory.” It’s really amazing.

Every year around this time, the potency of this phenomenon hits me like a tidal wave as I work to compile and rank my top tracks of the year. And I’m so grateful, because, while 2011 may be over, the memories are forever memorialized in the songs that served as my mental soundtrack of the past 12 months. Below are those songs.
